THE
WEST BRIDGFORD OPERATIC SOCIETY
The WBOS, based in Nottingham, England, was formed in 1945, and
recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. Our first show was
in 1946 and every year since then we have performed at least one
show every year! The Society has established a reputation for having
high-quality singing, both chorus and principals. This reputation,
together with a high standard of production, means that we are able
to produce a top quality show both acoustically and visually. Our
policy has always been to cast principals from within the Society,
if possible, which means everyone can audition and has a fair chance
of singing solos.
It's not all singing, however. The Society has a good reputation
for being friendly, new members are made very welcome and are very quickly
included in the social side of things. We have a number of
social events throughout the year, plus regular post-rehearsal drinks
(just to settle the vocal chords you understand!).
PERFORMANCES
Up until a few years ago we concentrated our performances on the
shows of Gilbert and Sullivan. In 1998 we took the plunge and decided
to alternate between our "traditional" canon and shows
by other composers.
Our most recent production, The Yeomen of the Guard at the Nottingham Arts Theatre in January 2008
was a well received tribute to the hard work and expertise of Director Trevor Impey and Musical Director Piotr Wisniewski.
